spells help

    how do I handle this situation?

    The PC casts Lighting bolt. The monster get to make a save for half damage...

    How do I set up the save before the dmg is applied?

    How do you guys handle this event?

    spell casting. Mod gets to make a save before damage is applied..

    Here's an example of doing a saving throw in the feature system, if that is what you are asking about.

    Ref is Pathfinder. Substitute Dexterity if you're in 5e.

    Again, guys very happy for the swift responses.

    I was able to create the spell above.. but no idea how to implement that? I figure this will be connected to casting the spell but how to connect that up?


    What I need to understand is how the whole thing will work in casting this spell. My PC wants to cast Lighting bolt at a group of monsters. How do I get the above to run on the attack roll and give me the result? save for half or take full DMG

    There isn't an attack roll for Lightning Bolt, as I recall. You cast it and target the creatures. D20pro makes the save roll for the targets and compares the result to the DC listed in the effect.

    Thanks this is were I am.

    In the rules library. I have created a spell call Lighting Bolt and used your functions above.
    I click on my character and select spell. The decision window appears. This is were I'm stuck.

    Apply GM feature
    apply Lighting bolt
    effect: inert
    target: no target

    First issue: when I click Inert a new feature window appears and it has none of the specs I had set in the rules library for lighting bolt. If I click target.. No target is found..

    click ok, ok

    Grayower Fandal Apply Spell lightning bolt.


    nothing seems to have worked... anyone got this working?

    When you click on the 'Target' field, a new dialog appears (it's empty), the cursor will change to a selector.

    then using the grey circle selector, you can click on the token your want to effect

    I think its working... but I need to reset this up every time. Do I have to create all these properties every time its cast? Not sure why its not seeing the spell I have added to the rules lib...Lighting bolt is a wizard spell so its in the classes txt

    So you set up the spell "lightning bolt" in the spell library.
    Then make sure its got the same name and spelling as what's in the classes.txt file.

    No. If you created it in your rules content library, once you create it, its good everytime you use that spell.

    I added Catapult after some trial and error. How would the experts do Booming Blade?

    How would you have it calculate the save DC? How do you reference ability score mods? If I wanted to create a Hit Die effect (1d12+Con Mod) how would I do that? I'm sure there's some variable I can use?

    dice(1d12) + getConMod()

    would do the trick I think.

    Excellent, thanks Krillion! One more question: I looked into the res\scripts folder so I see the mods I can pick, but what if I wanted to get the target or caster's Maximum hp value? Can I write my own scripts or is this not something I can call? I'm thinking of an ability that heals 25% of the caster's max hp, or something that triggers when a creature's hp drops to 50% of max?

    I see casterHP() but that only returns the current hp, not max.

    4th edition has the Bloodied condition, that kicks in at 50% of health.
    So there must be a way to determine when a creature/character hits half of maximum.

    Possibly check that game system.
