from what I can tell, campaign cartographer is the next besy thing behind Dundjinni when it comes to quality of battlemaps.

    here are some choices...

Pyromancer's Online Dungeon Painter: http://pyromancers.com/dungeon-painter-online (free)

Dungeon Crafter III: http://www.dungeoncrafter3.com/download.php (Free, last update Jun 17, 2010)

AutoRealm: http://autorealm.sourceforge.net (Free, last update 2006)

RPGMapMaker: http://fmteau.perso.neuf.fr/rpgmapmaker/rpgmapmaker.htm ($37) Mac only, last update July 2011 - old style graphics

Dungeonographer: http://www.dungeonographer.com (Free version and PRO version $25) Java application, so works on Mac's and PC's

Campaign Cartographer: http://www.profantasy.com/ (Lots of things to buy, each module is around $40) PC's only

You should take a look at each of these and see which one works best for you. Alternatively, I've seen many people make impressive maps using Photoshop or another image editing software title.

PyMapper is great if you own WotC Tiles or Skeleton Key tiles. I also recommend going over to the Cartographers Guild and learning to use GIMP and Inkscape if you are going to be creating your own maps.

These are fantastic. Maybe we can add these to our online manual in a mapping section>?

Edwardcd, I hope at some point you will add World Engine and MapForge to that list. Might be best until they are both actual shipping products, but they'll certainly be relevant responses to the OP's question.

What @heruca isn't saying is that both World Engine and MapForge will support vector skinned shapes where you can apply textures and build out re-skinnable maps like Dundjinni. Also Heruca secured the CSUAC access! Hopefully that won't preclude us from doing the same. I was testing on my end when his message came in that he'd talked to the owner of the bundle. le'sigh.

But this is exactly one of those items where we can help each other out by example!

Surely there will be a better place for up-to-date apps - as that one was last updated in 2011, most likely I'll create a wiki page, and reference the forum topic to the wiki page. Thanks for bump in the topic, as this topic is a good one - just needs to be more up-to-date :)

And DungeonFog is another new mapping app that will need to be added.
