As some creatures, for example, use Dexterity for Climb instead of Strength (just one type of example) it would be nice if on the skills tab the skills would still show up with the default attribute for it but give us the option to choose from a drop down list, like the ranks, the attribute we wish to use instead.

That way if the character had a special ability that allowed them to use a different attribute for a skill they can be changed on the fly.

You would need to edit skills.txt and add the variation..
Tho make sure you add it at the bottom of the list or it will mess up the creatures/characters you have already done.

Yes you could do it that way and have a super long list of skills using all the variations of each. Being able to change the attribute on the skill tab would be more elegant and intuitive. Also if it is built into the program everyone would have it, not just a few that have altered the skills.txt.
