I'm happy to announce the minor version release of D20PRO version 3.6.8

As this is the first significant update since 3.6.6. there's a lot of bug fixes and feature improvements rolled into this build. I'll try to cover them in brief here. As usual, much of what I'll cover here can be found in the Release Notes text document which installs into your D20PRO directory.

    • Enhanced Map Marker Functionality
Map markers were updated to support a number of new features including Place Below Fog of War, Custom Size and Custom Rotation. Additionally, the behavior of a locked marker is designed to prevent player interaction and accidentally triggering Marker Mode. This behavior can still use some refinement. Double clicking on a locked marker will allow Marker Mode access from the owners context (primarily GM).

    • Enhanced Class File Definitions
With a new vision of game system and rules expansion, we expanded the Classes.txt file which resides in each campaigns ManuallySpecified directory to include several new headers. This definition will continue to expand as needed as we move further along the Rules roadmap.

For now, the expanded functional expanded fields include HitDie, SavingThrows, and Features.
In addition we fixed the GoodSaves field to properly result in class based save calculations. SavingThrows and GoodSaves are interchangable with the later being more contextually correct for 3.5 and Pathfinder games.

Features is a list header which allows for definitions of class features. These entries are presented on the Traits tab of the character sheet in game.

    • Updated Character Sheet Tabs (General and Traits)
As we slowly work out way through the existing character sheet, we've added a new Traits tab to the mix as well as reworked Classes and Types on the General tab.

      • Traits are pulled from the Classes.txt file for a given Class and/or Creature Type. For now, the result is a simple table of items which provides a uses tracker, description area and some other reference data. As we progress with our Feature Library, these will become significantly more important and functional.

      • There are a significant number of changes on the General tab. The most notable is the odd spacing on the Saving Throws line. This is to allow for expansion of the Saves line to account for Game Systems using up to 7 save types. This change is temporary while we work on the new Character View and Editor solution.

      • Next on the General tab is the Stats and Saves editors. Clicking on one of these fields will now result in a pop-over UI which allows you to edit the Base Value and add/subtract modifiers to that value. For instance, if a creature had a 10 STR and you clicked to edit, you would see 10 + 0. Editing the 10 to make it a new number would simply change the base value for the creature, however, if you augment the stat by changing the + 0 value, you will see that the stat (or save) will now carry a colored representation -- Blue for Positive and Red for Negative.

We've taken into account colorblindness when choosing these colors. The selected Blue and Red should appear almost identical to all vision types.

      • While the options are not located on the Character Sheet, we have added an enhancement in the Options->Rules panel which allows a GM to enable Death Saves and/or Inspiration. These are currently just dump fields which track numbers and have no rules backing them. The Death Saves element will certainly see major revision before release. At the moment, neither of these elements are visible from the Creature Mini View.

      • Added a CR field to the Edit Creature system.

      • Finally, the Creature Type was removed as a drop down and rolled into the Class/Type table. The purpose of this was to prevent redundant data from being presented on an otherwise cluttered form. Additionally, we added a hit die mechanic to the table allowing for total hit dice and die types to be managed locally.

In hand with this, there is now a "Roll" button next to the HP tracker which lets you roll your max hit points based on the current rule system.
    • Bug Fixes and Shadow Casting Speed Improvements
As many of you are aware, there were a number of bugs in 3.6.6 which needed major squashing. To that end we have solved many of the published bugs and a handful of non-published bugs. Here is a list of the ones worth mentioning:

      • 'Z' key bug in the mini window causing a "random" window pop-up.
      • Saving throw hot keys for all game system types
      • "History" skill modifier calculations when using the Skill Decision
      • GoodSaves and auto save calculations on creature edit
      • Shadow casting performance updates removing alpha blending when not directly in Game Tools-FoW or "F6" Toggle Visibility Mode
      • Overhaul of the dice roller to use a more uniform die roll algorithm
      • Fixes to the Herolab importer and PCGen importers. Herolab is up and running, while mileage may vary with the PCGen importer for the moment.

After taking a bit of a breath, we'll get an update out talking about our next steps. We'll also get some data out about usage for the new Classes.txt file architecture.

    Till next time, good gaming!
