So I actually noticed this a long time ago, I just kept forgetting to post it up here. A while back I had an Oracle of Life I was playing, with a Str of 7, armed with a quarterstaff. The problem was that her STR penalty was doubled with a two-handed weapon. Even if you're weak, holding something in two hands doesn't make you less capable of dealing damage.

The actual calculation is 1.5 X STR MOD.

Though, you are correct. The intent of D&D and Pathfinder based games is that you apply the STR penalty, but not multiply it for damage calculations. This is stated directly in the Pathfinder RAW, but it is up for debate with evil DM's and Player Lawyers in OGL versions of D&D.

    So, it should be:
If STR mod < 1 then do not multiply STR mod for damage
If STR mod > 0 then calculate based from x 1.5 STR MOD (for two handed weapons)

    Good catch!
