Add an XP box to creatures, have a calculator keep track of eliminated creatures and have it divide XP among characters

Not a bad idea, but could be problematic to implement as an automated thing. XP in 3.5 is largely determined by creature level, party level, and ad-hoc situations (like Shambling Mounds + Shocker lizards combo). How would d20pro know the xp to assign per creature? What about templates or special monsters? What if the party has an NPC helper? What if the PCs didn't deal the killing blow? What if you kill a creature by mistake and have to heal it up again? Do they get xp twice? What if the GM is using optional flat rate XP for his system?

In general, we try to steer away from automated rule enforcement and go for a more free-form approach (like you have with pen & paper). I like the idea of an XP box on the character sheet though, and maybe an ability to select multiple characters and Add XP to them. Just not sure about how to do the rest without forcing the rules on people or running into numerous exceptions.

If you are looking for an easy way to calculate xp...

if we had the simple XP box that could be added to via right-click, then the above site would be all you would need.

I'd be happy with an XP box so I wouldn't have to open the monster manual to find it.

As a quick fix, I'll create an invisible 'XP monster' and give it damage to add it up :p

Actually, something easy would be a small box (like a counter box) where you just add XP numbers as the party accumulates XP. Add another simple button that can divide that sum, or subtract from it, and there you go. Basically, it is just a calculator. But it defintely could be helpful (and something most other VTs don't have). In fact, that is a problem I have come upon in every VT I tried... most of the time, you need another program to help you track most of the stuff in your campaign. In the end, you either spend another 20-40 bucks in DM-helper/familiar/you-name-it or you start opening annoying "indexcards" through note-pad (and thus switching in and out of the d20pro/BG/FG window). Obviously, the easiest answer here may be to include the possibility of creating editable index-cards that players and DM may use and even share. A more complex solution is the addition of the CALCULATOR, a PLAYER JOURNAL, etc. Let's see how this may get into future versions of the game! See ya!

I think an in-game calculator and resource manager would rock. For example:

The GM has control of a Pool of resources. Let's start with three: Wealth, XP, and Items.
    • Creatures would have a Wealth and XP box in their inventory tab
    • GMs could transfer wealth, xp, and items from creatures to a central pool
    • GMs could then distribute the pool of xp or wealth to the party evenly (d20pro does the math and adds to the PC sheets) or individually transfer wealth, xp, or items from the pool to specific PCs
    • GMs could still manually edit creatures/players or even the pool to add/remove any wealth, xp, or items

Using this method, the GM still has to process the loot from monsters (preventing accidental xp gains) and could modify anything on the fly. This would allow for ad-hoc xp, or partial loot (the party may not have found that ring encrusted on the troll's finger).

    Thoughts?

    yeah this would be nice.

For 1st, 2nd and 4ed all monster had fixed exp rates.
when a creature is killed or defeated the dm can going into the creatures sheet and in a little exp box have a add button next to it. Click the add button and said total goes it to Gm Calcuator tool. if you open the Calculator tool it will display the total of xp the party gained. and it will have a button that says select targets to divine total with. select all the targets and it auto divines and add that to said character sheets.

could even do something simlar with gold that is found.
