I just downloaded the d20Pro and activated a trial license. I'm trying to get used to the map tools before I use them with a group, but I can't get them to do anything. When I open d20Pro I get a black screen with the player commands across the top and the start menu icon. I can click on Draw Tools, which opens the palette as described in the help files. But no matter what I do I can't get any tiles to move out onto the map area. I've tried click and drag, control+click, right click, and even shaking my fist at the monitor but nothing seems to work. If I try to change the map's dimensions it says I don't have a map open.

I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise, version 6.1, Service Pack 1 on a 64-bit machine, if that affects anything.

That's because you don't have a map open. The black space that takes up most of the screen is a void of nothingness. Open the library, and click on the second big button at the top. That will be your map library. You can create new maps, import maps already in the d20Pro format, or open any of the existing maps in your library (which your library comes with a few samples).

The user guide is quite comprehensive regarding how to use the tools, but they do not address how to create a blank slate to draw on. I think the assumption is that GM's will be drawing on existing maps. A quick update to add a step to create a new blank map would be great. The map tools instructions are here: http://help.d20pro.com/UGGMDrawTools.html

I personally don't use these tools normally as I prefer having a nicely drawn, full color, detailed map. I either copy a map from a PDF, create one in PhotoShop or borrow one from the internet -- as long as I can get a JPG, GIF or PNG graphic file, I can import it into d20pro. The create a map using an imported image instructions are here: http://help.d20pro.com/UGGPMaps.html
