A Square x by Square y resize ability would be awesome as in, a 2x1 creature or a 16x1 snake or whatever else would be really awesome.

Yes, X*Y resize ability for all creatures would be a fine addition, and allow the ability to use creatures as movable objects with the correct proportions (such as movable vehicles/carts/wagons/etc) and allow our four legged friends to have the correct figure size on the map.

Horses are 2x2 in 3.5. I dont know what system you're playing.

In 3.0 creatures could be rectangular, in 3.5 they did away with that and went with square creatures for simplicity.

2nd ed would use odd shaped 1X3 a well.

Yes, I never liked that part of the simplified rules for base size of creatures that 3.5 brought to the table. We still use our 1x2 bases figures for a lot of creatures when my group gets together to play on an actual table. It adds to the realism/experience.

Just recently we assaulted an escorted horse drawn heavy armored stagecoach with a patrol of mounted and unmounted guards. And, if we used book-sized bases for each creature, it would look mighty strange for a 2x3 horse pulley system (where each horse is 2x2) in front of a 3x3 armored stagecoach. I like features that enhance game-play, not restrict options.

The second part why a custom size option that allows for x*y custom sizes would be beneficial, since then it would support any game, even ones not published. An easy way to implement would simply check "custom size" (custom sizes are not automatically scaled up when user uses "enlarge" feature). Alternatively, let's say our adventuring party came across an avalanche while trekking up mountain side. One easy way to track the avalanche front is to insert a creature so named "Avalanche Front" with the custom size of 1x10, then using the movement speed to track exactly where it is on the map at any given round. This would make a much more dynamic experience as the players can actually see it coming for them. This would add to the overall game experience without much work needed.
