Currently when a spell offers a saving throw and you apply the DC and target the creatures it will show pass/fail.

In 3.5 when someone rolls a natural 1 on a saving throw that deals hit point damage, a random magical item also suffers this damage. Currently the pass/fail system does not provide the intel needed to discern that a 1 is rolled unless the PC only fails on a 1.

A symbol a skull for example could further show that the result was a 1. A number could also be shown instead as to what the roll actually was so this can be included. Currently all PCs and Monsters have to roll individual saving throws outside of this very helpful and quick system - slowing game play down.
