Since I subscribe to the adventure path I get the PDF of the books and was planning to extract the maps inside and import them in D20pro. Is it easilly doable usually? Is some work required on the maps beforehand or is it mostly straightforward? (I won't have time to prepare the next AP until september but I was wondering about the workload involved)

    thanks

It is fairly easy using the select tool to grab the maps from a PDF AP. I recommend getting the Interactive Map sets though, as they allow you to toggle the grid and markers on and off for cleaner import. Additionally, the interactive maps have player and DM views that make a difference on whether a secret door/room is shown or not.

Somewhere in this forum is a link to a map sizing tool for excel that can guide you to resize the map images in an image manipulation software (like GIMP) to get the grid to match more effectively, but the map import tool has been greatly enhanced since then and you will probably not require it.

On another note, check out RPG Mapshare and other image storage sites for AP maps that someone may have done in Photoshop or other tool. They can be exactly like the one in the AP but of higher resolution and quality.

    Hello kinwolf,

Golkiwu gave you great guidance in looking for a map that was fan created on RPG Map Share: http://rpgmapshare.com/ And MapScaleTool is located at: http://www.beauvais1.com/mapscaletool/ .
Another good site is the Cartographer's Guild: http://www.cartographersguild.com/ - depending on what types of maps you want.

If you do not find a good alternative map online (which is suited for Virtual Table Tops), then there maybe some minor work required since some publishers resize the dimensions of their map's image to fit it to the page on PDF (so it changes the pixels per square on some), though once you get the hang of it it doesn't take that long. Here is a walk-through guide on our help site: http://www.d20pro.com/help/UGGPMaps.php

Thanks for the great information. I didn't know about rpg mapshare, I saw a couple maps about kingmaker in there, great!

It would be sooo nice if Paizo would release high res packages made for VTT. :)
