Just want to make sure I'm reading this right...

Purchasing D20 pro gives me a GM license, allowing me to connect as a player, as well as host games as a GM.

My players would download the client version, but I'm not sure if there is a fee for the client as well?

    Hail and well met wyrmbear,

Thanks for your interest in d20Pro. You are correct about the Full License allowing you to either host a game as GM or connect to a game as Player. Other people connecting to your game as Players will need licenses themselves, either Trials or Full Licenses. There is also a free Player Only license known as the Guest License http://www.d20pro.com/dl/license_Guest.txt. This allows one person to connect for free; however, others will need their own licenses.

So that's how things work for the time being. We've been getting many requests to revise how licensing works with d20Pro. Many GMs have expressed interest in paying a little extra up front so their Players don't have to. We are actively brainstorming about the best way to make this happen. The next major release (planned for June) will have an updated license system. More details will be released once they are available.

One thing we want to make clear is that d20Pro is software for gamers, by gamers. Regardless of how we update the licensing system, we'll make sure that people who have bought Full Licenses under the current system will not be disappointed by the new changes.

Feel free to post your suggestions here or PM me with them.

Just wanted to say that I got the software at gencon... and I haven't had time to check EVERYTHING over but I like what I see. Especially compared to "the competition" which was across the way from you. I had purchased their software a couple years ago and it was was it was... it worked. But it was....... clunky for lack of a better term.

HOWEVER... What I'm not real pleased about was that nowhere in the spiel I was given was there any mention that when I bought it I wasn't getting a full system for my group. I was getting MY part (and one player) and that was it. I find it quite disingenuous to have gotten the great talk about how good the software was and convince me to buy it without letting me know that it was going to cost me another 10 dollars PER PLAYER that I had join my group (currently 7 players). I certainly am not going to ask my players to front the cost so if I want to use the software, I have to fork it over myself.

As it is, the software will most likely go on the shelf titled Lesson Learned and collect dust unless something drastic is done with licensing. At least when I bought Fantasy Grounds I knew what I was getting and didn't have to pay out more money after-the-fact.

    Not Exactly Pleased

    Eric,

I'm disappointed that anyone on the d20pro team would sell you on the software without explaining the licensing system. We pride ourselves on being fair and open with customers and everyone on the team knows the license structure very well.

For the record, this post is a bit old, and relates to our previous (1.x) license system. Our current system is as follows:
    • A full license is $30 and grants you 1 GM license and 2 Guest slots that can be filled by Guest accounts. GM licenses can act as player licenses when logging into other games.
    • You only need 1 license per computer login, not per player (players could share a computer if they are in the same geographic location)
    • Additional guests slots may be purchased by the GM to expand his capacity for $10 each.
    • OR Players may purchase Player licenses for $10 each. These licenses do not consume GM guest slots, and can be used to log into multiple GMs.

All in all, it's a maximum of $10 per player for everyone to play remotely, and that is permanent - no recurring fees, subscriptions, etc. We honestly feel that this is the absolute lowest price that is fair to players and our company as well (we have to pay our "code monkeys" something other than bananas).

I regret that you are dissatisfied or feel misled, as it is or intention to serve the gaming community, not cheat them. I'll discuss this with our team and we will contact you shortly.

    Happy Gaming,

    Hail and well met Kanati,

First, thanks for the choosing d20Pro as your VTT of choice. Second, I strongly confirm Dan's assertion that no one intentionally sold you a Full+2 voucher under the impression it would allow more than 2 Guests; however, someone will be in touch shortly to address your grievance. We're all gamers here and I'm sure we can reconcile this and get your group playing fast, more, and anywhere with d20Pro. :ugeek:
