Two things about combat using the software. I created a map and a few creatures that were test characters and monsters I was going to control just to get a feel for running combat. I had no one else connected to me at the time because I need to screw with the port forwarding on my router to get it to let people in. That is another thing altogether but I found the answer on previous posts...i think.

Anyhow, how do I actually activate combat and start it up. When I hit the combat/passive button it tells me there are only passive creatures and no active ones. How do I resolve this? I created a custom grid map of a castle, put a bunch of guards and npcs on the map and tried to enter into combat mode. What am I missing?

Also, and maybe this goes under the 4th edition section, but within 4th edition a lot of abilities cause movement effects. How do I simulate this within the software? If combat mode is going wont it limit how a pc can move? I tried to create an ability that would simulate this but I couldn't find a way to cause movement. Only thing I can figure out is as DM can I simply move people around at will as my players tell me to?

Finally, after combat are the current hp status and abilities that are listed on my pc's saved if I need to swap them to another map? Does the stats on a player that is on the roster continue over to the next map?

Lots of questions I know. Thanks in advance.

    Hey Flames0042,

You were starting combat correctly except for one thing: You need to flag creatures as Active first. See our pages on combat here:
    http://help.mindgene.com/judging/combat
In particular, the Initiative section. Basically, select the units you want to be in combat, and hit the I key or right click on one of the group and select Alter>Initiative>enter Initiative.

Once in combat, players are restricted to moving only during their turn, but you as a GM can move any unit at any time. So if an effect or ability allows or forces a move, then you can move it if it's currently not the PC's turn. No need to make effects.

Moving creatures from map to map doesn't remove status effects, hps, or even break initiative. In fact, you can run combat across several maps if you want. When you close a map, all creatures are saved with it, with all effects, hit points, and consumables as they were when you closed it.

I hope this clarifies a bit for you!
