Could you give us a bit more information about your system? What operating system and version are you running? d20pro requires the latest version of Java to run. Do you have that?

    www.java.com

We are here to help, so please let us know more information or if Java works for you!

OK, with some testing I have determined that it is a Vista problem. does the software run on both 32 and 64 bit processors? I can get it running on one of my 32 bit test machines but not a 64 bit machine. also when i tried to run the program as a 32 bit on the 64 bit Vista it would not run either. So it is deffinately Vista related. I'll play some more with it and let you know, but not sure what else i can do.

    But wait theres more, lol.

I seem to be able to get the splash screen from running the .bat. It seems that the program will not run with a 64 bit java install. in the .bat file it says:

REM By default, we locate java in the path. If you do not have a valid 32bit JRE found first in the path
REM The update the below with a full absolute path to a javaw.exe
    set JAVA=javaw

    start %JAVA% -Xmx512m -Dsun.java2d.ddoffscreen=false -Dsun.java2d.noddraw -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false -jar d20Pro.dat

this ensures that it will work with either a 32 bit or 64 bit java. But the problem seems to be that the .exe does not kick off the .bat file early enough in the processing. So reconedations to get it to work:

    1) change the icon to point to the .bat file instead of the .exe
    2) run the program from the .bat using explorer
    3) wait until the d20 folks make a few changes
    4) make sure you only have a 32 bit java (JVE) installed

    hope this helps. thanks.

chiefweasel, sorry you're having these problems. I run d20Pro with your exact setup (Vista64, SP1, 4GB) and I just downloaded Java 1.6.0_15 and it fired up like normal. I'll continue to test to see if I can reproduce this error your having. Did you download the new d20Pro v2.0 installer from our web site after the convention or is it possible you're working from an older version you downloaded previously?

I downloaded the file after Gen Con. It looks like its something on my end that is causing the problem. I'll check out the v2 installer though and see if that helps. i think i just downloaded the .exe from the website.

    Hail and well met chiefweasel,

Great event at GenCon! Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions for d20Pro v2.0. There's a lot more gaming to be done out there! :D

Hey there, yup Gen Con was good. I didnt have a lot of time to do the demos I wanted to but was good just the same.

I am still having a problem getting the D20Pro to work though. I have registered but cant the .exe to kick off the program. I am able to get it to launch by using the .bat file. although when i log in i get the following message:

    Unable to download license.
Caused by: licenses\license_Chiefweasel(d20Pro_Full_2.0.0).txt (Access is denied).

Not sure why, but am stuck at this point. i would love to try it out and get my gaming group on it, but i cant seem to get it to run. any suggestions? i did send my account and password along to dan a few days ago, but i am sure you guys are swapped with stuff since getting back from Gen Con. thanks.

    Hey Chiefweasel,

Sorry it's been 2 days since you contacted me - I've been out of town with family business. I did try your login and was able to download the license and start up d20pro with no problem (from the exe) - so it looks like your account and license are fine. I would try completely uninstalling d20pro & Java, then reinstalling both under administrator permissions. Try installing d20pro into a place where you are certain you have write permissions - like My Documents or your Desktop - or maybe even a flash drive.

Then run it and see what's up.

Well it took a bit but i was finally able to launch the progam. Although I still have to launch it from the .bat file rather then the .exe file. Not sure what that problem is, but an still working on it. Thanks for the help.
